Above all, my favorite pastime is gardening. It began after purchasing a fixer-upper house in San Marcos in 1996. 11 years later, after much trial and error, I won Yard of the Month, and gardening became a beloved pastime. Many afternoons were spent toiling in the garden and developing an understanding of fundamental design principles, drainage, topography, regional materials, plant characteristics, and ecological requirements. Evolving a garden over time takes patience and hard work, but you get out of it what you put into it.
Years later, after purchasing my fourth house, I created a landscape plan. I used Illustrator to create a scaled plan with my graphic design background. The contractor hired to do the work was impressed; the yard and gardens were beautiful. About a year later, this same contractor asked me to design plans for his clients. This turned a hobby into a business!
A need for an independent landscape designer in the San Marcos area became apparent. I employed a process that included clear communication and a commitment to deliver a plan on time and meet the client's scope. I specialize in residential projects encouraging homeowners to linger and enjoy their outdoor spaces. The designs rely on native and adapted plants and hardscape materials that naturally blend into Central Texas landscapes. Sustainable design incorporating the region's natural beauty is the bedrock of beautiful Central Texas landscapes.
Over the past couple of years, I've been too busy to engage with the business side of landscape design, but I still do one every now and then. However, evolving my own garden is a never-ending pleasure!
